Long-term collaboration is a driving force in Melis Tezkan’s practice. biriken - an artist duo founded in 2006 by Melis Tezkan and Okan Urun - produces work across theatre, video, and performance. The name biriken, meaning “accumulated” in Turkish, reflects the duo’s layered approach. Their work engages with contemporary realities and has been presented at international platforms including Under the Radar Festival (New York), Wiener Festwochen, De Keuze International, Sharjah Biennial, Jerk Off Festival, IDANS Festival, and the Istanbul Theatre Festival (IKSV), among others.
In 2018, biriken was listed among ArtReview magazine’s Ten Future Greats. They were also in ONDA's Turkey listings. Their 2014 staging of The Night Just Before the Forests (Bernard-Marie Koltès) received several award nominations in Turkey. Actor Rıza Kocaoğlu’s performance in the production earned him four Best Actor awards, including the prestigious Turkish Theatre Critics’ Award.
